Four-time Cy Young award winner Greg Maddux tonight tries to avoid his second three-start losing streak this season when the Atlanta Braves continue their series with the Montreal Expos.
In his last two starts Maddux (6-8, 4.84 ERA) has allowed 13 hits and 11 earned runs over nine innings. He lasted just four innings against the Marlins Monday and gave up seven runs on six hits. "I didn't pitch good, I didn't locate good and they took advantage," said the struggling veteran. "They hit my mistakes." While his career stats against the Expos are 23-16, 2.46 ERA it's worth noting that the Over has cashed in six of Maddux's last seven starts vs. Montreal.
Last night the Braves got their first win over the Expos at Turner Field this season and they lead the majors with 126 home runs. More importantly they lead the NL East at 53-31 (.631) overall.
Meantime the Expos are seven games back in the NL East at 47-39 (.547). They have scored at least four runs in nine of their last ten games.
Javier Vazquez (6-6, 4.05 ERA) starts for Montreal as he looks to snap a three game skid. The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA in four starts since a victory at Seattle on June 10. He has allowed at least three earned runs in five consecutive starts and the Over is 7-1-1 in his last nine starts. Vazquez is 6-7 with a 4.46 ERA in 12 career games against the Braves.
We played the Over in this match-up last night and once again believe it offers value tonight.
